I am delighted to welcome you to the website of the Department of Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine at Gharyan University, where the platform is open to anyone wishing to see the news and scientific activities of the department. Besides, this site allows you to communicate with faculty members. With our wishes that the site will gain your approval and achieve benefit. Best wishes.

Vision

To be a globally recognized center for pathology education, clinical diagnosis and disease research and has the ability to achieve the highest levels of excellence, competition and continuous development in the field of education, disease diagnosis, scientific research and community service.

Mission

Providing a suitable educational environment for students of the Faculty of Medicine Gharyan and graduate students.

Providing diagnostic services to patients of the highest standards.

Cooperating with the various basic and clinical departments to achieve our goals in education, clinical diagnosis and biomedical research to serve the environment and society based on the plan of the College of Medicine Gharyan and the university.

Effective management of resources required to achieve our goals

Goals

Pathology is a very precise science, which is entrusted with the study of changes that occur in different tissues in the organs of the human body in various diseases and thus diagnose these diseases accurately based on histological and cellular analyzes.

Study the understanding of the common mechanisms of disease occurrence and their relationship to disease progression.

Early diagnosis of cancerous tumors, prevention and development of treatments.

Research in the field of diagnosing diseases and following up the therapeutic effects.

Quality in the field of diagnosis of diseases.

Strategic objectives of the department:

· Participate in preparing high-level doctors who can diagnose various diseases that affect humans.

· Teach third-year medical students the pathology course.

· Contribute to preparing high-level scientific cadres capable of:

Accurately diagnose various diseases.

Differentiate between diseases that are similar in histopathology through the use of differential immunostaining and tumor markers.

General objectives of the course:

· Introduce students to the basic patterns of diseases and their underlying mechanisms within a specific organ system.

· Provide students with the basic knowledge for their clinical rotations and prepare them for their subsequent clinical careers.

Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs): Knowledge and Understanding: Through the course,

1- Students should be able to recognize the causes and pathologies of various disease processes.

2- Describe and discuss the gross and microscopic features of various pathological lesions within a specific organ system and the associated functional disorders.

3- Determine the outcome and complications of various disease processes.

4- Identify the causes of disease, with particular emphasis on environmental causes.

5- Recognize the changing development, growth, structure, and function of the body and mind that occur as a result of disease.

Intellectual skills Through the course, students should be able to:

Compare different pathological processes.

Predict the diagnosis of different diseases based on basic macroscopic and microscopic images.

Interpret pathology reports.

Professional and practical skills Through the course, students should be able to:

o Demonstrate clinical decision-making skills that weigh the pros and cons of proposed interventions.

o Distinguish between different pathological diagnostic tools.

o Provide a complete description of the pathological images of various disorders based on gross and microscopic images in order to arrive at the correct diagnosis.

General transferable skills through the course.

1. Students should be able to express themselves freely and adequately by improving their descriptive abilities and communication skills.

2. Respond appropriately according to the severity of the pathological diagnosis in an acceptable humane manner.

3. Maintain an appropriate image in style, dress, speech, and relationships that are consistent with the medical profession.

4. Know when and how to seek consultation from senior colleagues.

5. Work collaboratively with other health professionals in other specialties to maximize benefits to patients and minimize the risk of errors.

6. Identify personal weaknesses through careful self-assessment and/or supervisors and colleagues and develop a clear learning plan to address these weaknesses.

7. Utilize vital medical information resources, including electronic facilities, to update knowledge.
